Helen always reminded me of a songbird. Small, frail, and bringing a joy to those around her. Over the few years I knew Helen, I was always impressed by her love for family, her strength in face of adversity, her quiet gentleness, her concern for others. She never wanted the attention on her but rather wanted the attention to be on those around her whom she cared about so much. My family and I will always miss her. We need more Helens in this world to bring the beauty back.

Although I often wished that Mama and I were closer, there was never a time that I did not admire much about her. She was one of the hardest working people I have ever known and I am sure that my own work ethic owes much to her example. She was honest and loyal and she expected me to have those traits, too. She gave me many opportunities to excell - in school and in music. I especially appreciate the latter. Music has been so very important in my life. She was strong-willed and focused in her purpose. She taught me to be strong and responsible. Not altogether a bad legacy.
